Languages learning is an integral part of a broad and balanced education for all learners. Learning a language offers students the opportunity to:
  • Use the language to communicate with its speakers
  • Understand how language operates as a system and, through comparisons, how other languages, including English, are structured and function
  • Gain direct insights into the culture, which give the language its life and meaning
  • Consider their own culture, and compare it with the cultures of countries and communities where the language is spoken
  • Add to their general knowledge about the world and the Chinese culture
At St. Anthony’s Mandarin is taught to students from Foundation to Year 6. All children have weekly lessons with a specialist teacher. Activities during these classes include development of vocabulary and skills in speaking and listening. The children are encouraged to develop an understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture.

A Cultural Day is held with the children participating in many different cultural activities.
