Through our English program we aim to develop in our students the ability to be able to read, write, speak and listen effectively so they can be active and confident participants in society.

Our approach to the learning and teaching of English follows the curriculum as set out by the Victorian Curriculum. Students across all year levels are able to access learning experiences and opportunities that incorporate the three strands of English:
  • Reading and Viewing
  • Writing
  • Speaking and Listening
Features of our English program include:
  • Structured two-hour Literacy blocks
  • Reading Recovery – a specialised program that is offered to our Year One students requiring daily one-to-one assistance with their reading
  • Multi-Literacies – A Reading Tutor Program that is offered to some students in Year Three and Year Four that may require extra support with their reading
  • Access to a range of resources and materials to support our programs
  • Interactive Whiteboards enhance our learning environments ensuring students are motivated and engaged
  • Ongoing subscription to the online resource ‘Sunshine Online’
  • Regular exposure to our school library that contains a variety of texts to foster a love and enjoyment of books and reading
  • Use of creative and independent Writer’s Notebooks for all students from Year One to Year Six
  • A wide range of assessment strategies that include teacher observations, work samples and formal assessments
  • Regular and ongoing staff professional development

The more things you know.
The more that you learn
The more places you’ll go.”
